My Day 10 - Jeep Expedition - Fort Nelson, BC

Today we saw a large black bear for about a minute just off the ALCAN (Alaska Canada) highway.  The moment we pulled over he just headed into to the lodgepole stunted tree jungle and vanished.  We were a little bored on the highway as well so we decided to head into the forest ourselves on a muddy dirt road.  As you can imagine our jeeps were totally covered in mud by the time we got back on the road and our tires spit out about 20 pounds per tire of raw thick mud.

This morning while at breakfast we also found out that Mike's Coleman awesome one person single pull 10 X 10 foot tent somehow got fried by the exhaust pipe.  Imagine the size of this behemoth and him trying to get it back in the original bag it came from then place it back inside his Jeep Cherokee.  No problem you say?  He then tried to get it on the roof - no room.  Then someone had the bright idea of placing it on the rear bumper and somehow it shifted and caught fire.  Apparently there is a hole in the tent floor that is somewhat plastic melded onto the tents front door.  Stay tuned for more as he is still carrying this behemoth; however today he is content to Ramada Inn camp with the rest of us.

Dog Charge?  So what do you think that Russ paid for Ziggy to stay in the room with us?  About $2.50 per pound for this little dog - $25.00.  The little pooch is a great passenger and with only one eye he has seen enough scenery to date to last him a dogtime.

This morning at 5:00 a.m. the sun was shining.  Not just a little but completely.  Plus, we got word of some heavy rain so we headed out of town and did not encounter rain until we got near Fort Nelson, BC.

See you on the trail.
